According to the Medical term “heart disease” refers to more than just heart attacks. It applies to a number of conditions that affect the heart, including coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, atrial fibrillation, congenital heart disease, cardiomegaly (enlarged heart), cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease), and more.

In general sense heart disease may be caused due to excess of stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, lack of physical labor, an increase in the level of blood sugar and cholesterol level etc. So we can say that the condition of the heart is a direct reflection of our lifestyle we lead.

Heart infection results from a buildup of plaque on the inside of the arteries, which reduces blood flow to the heart and increases the risk of having a heart attack and other heart complications. Other types of heart disease may include:

•Irregular heartbeat (i.e. arrhythmias)

•Congenital heart defects

•Weak heart muscles (i.e. cardiomyopathy)

•Heart valve problems

•Heart infections

•Cardiovascular disease

Symptoms of heart disease

Heart disease is often referred to as the “silent killer” as the person suffering from a heart problem doesn’t know about them until and unless they actually have a heart attack and even your doctor may not diagnose the disease until you show signs of a heart attack or heart failure. Symptoms of heart disease vary with people depending on the specific condition. For example, if you have a heart arrhythmia, then the symptoms may include:

•A fast or slow heartbeat

•Shortness of breath

•Chest pains

These are the symptoms of heart diseases that arise as we age or due to our lifestyle. But symptoms of a congenital (present at birth) heart defect may include skin discoloration, such as a pale or bluish color. You may also notice having a swelling in your legs and stomach. You might become tired easily or have shortness of breath shortly after having any type of physical activity.

If you have very weak heart muscles, then physical activity may cause tiredness and shortness of breath, dizziness and swelling in the ankle, legs, or feet are also most common with cardiomyopathy. Signs and symptoms of having a heart infection can include:

•Skin rash

•Irregular heartbeat

•swelling in legs and stomach etc.

Seek medical attention if you have any signs of having the heart problem. So it’s important to address symptoms at an early stage since there are many types of heart diseases, each having its own set of symptoms.

Risk factors for the heart disease

•High blood pressure

•Lack of exercise
